The
City of Hemet

|
Located
just 35 miles southeast of Riverside, the City of Hemet is nestled
in a valley at the foot of Mount San Jacinto. Having a history
as a popular agricultural area, Hemet has developed into a major
trading post for Riverside County.
|
 |
In the Sixties, Hemet began its reputation as retirement center
and continues to be a destination for flocks of retirees. The
1999 population was estimated at 62,751. Hemet remains an established
retirement community, but it is attracting many younger families
who provide services to the senior population. Other new residents
are those who are simply want to get away from the hustle and
bustle of the bigger cities of Southern California.
|
|
BUSINESS and EMPLOYMENT
|

|
Hemet's
economy is geared to providing goods and services to the retirement
community, and health care and financial services industry. The
largest employers are the Hemet Valley Hospital District and the
Hemet Unified School District. Private employers include Verizon,
Target, Wal-Mart and Home Depot. A significant part of the population
iscommuting up to 2 hours one way to outlying areas including Orange
and San Diego Counties, Temecula, Riverside and San Bernardino.
|
|
EDUCATION
Both Hemet
Unified and San Jacinto Unified school districts are experiencing
rapid growth, due in part to the San Jacinto Valley's affordability.
Mt. San Jacinto Community College is also one of the fastest growing
colleges in the state according to school officials, with an enrollment
of approximately 15,000.
Hemet Unified
School District was founded in approximately 1892 and is the predominant
district in the city and provides education for students in kindergarten
through grade 12. Serving more than 18,000 students, it is the
one of the largest geographic districts in the state.

|
PUBLIC
AMENITIES
There are some excellent
parks and recreational areas, facilities and programs that are
overseen by the Valley Parks and Recreational District. For
fishing enthusiasts, the new Diamond Valley Lake, Californias
largest man-made body of water will offer (predicted by the
experts) great fishing in addition to many other planned activities.
